AHL AL BAYT appears three times in the Quran.
In none of the three cases it refers to Muhammed, Ali, Fatima, Hassan and Husain.
The first two verses (11.73 and 28.12) do not even refer to Prophet Muhammad´s bayt, and 33:33 adresses only women.
In all 3 verses together there are hardly any males involved except prophet Ibrahim, and Musa as a baby. All other persons adressed as ahl- al bayt are females.
In 11.73 the people rejoice that Ibrahim and his wife were going to have a child, and they tell her: "Allah's grace and blessings are upon you, o people of the house." It is a human quote, and ahl al bayt refers to Ibrahim and his wife (and maybe other relatives).
In 28:12 it refers to Musa's sister, who wants to persuade Pharaoh's people to let Musa´s own mother breastfeed him. She tells Pharaoh's people, "Shall I lead you to people of a house who will care for him in your place and wish him good?"
It is also a human quote, and ahl al bayt here refers to Musa´s mother and herself, the sister, (and maybe other relatives).
In 33:33 it is Allah addressing the women of the Prophet. Allah gives these women instructions which they should follow, because "Allah wants to remove uncleanness from you, people of the house, and to cleanse you completely."
In this case it is Allah´s own Speech (no human quote), and ahl al bayt refers to the females.
